Kitchen Show off

Image
My last kitchen post talked about what I did, but didn't have the best pictures of it, and now that it's a bit more put together, I decided I'd share a few more pictures!  Here's the dining room, wall decor hung up, and looking great!  I wanted some kind of show piece for the dining room that tied the kitchen and dining room together, I found these at a thrift store for 75 cents a piece, so I got the whole set, and it looks awesome!  And here's the finished kitchen! I'm going to replace the counters and backsplash eventually, as well as the stove and fan, but until then, it looks great! :)

Bathroom Reveal

Image
So this is the bathroom reveal! (well mostly....) I finished everything in there except a few things: the light fixture isn't completely done (the last fixture did more damage than anticipated so it's going to be a while before we finish it), the floor is still carpet, we bought a curved shower curtain rod, but we still have up the doors (which don't work really well when bathing a 2 year old...), we haven't hung the towel rod yet, and I'm thinking about staining the cabinets a darker color to make the vanity stand out more... On the flip side, it looks amazing just the way it is, so I figured I'd share it! Here's the vanity wall, all pretty and decorated. Wall hangings complete the space I have to say.  Next, is the picture wall, a finishing touch of flowers to finish it off. I even got different kinds so I can change them out when I want to.  Here's above the toilet, with a 3 dollar decorative mirror from walmart. I hated how bare that wall is,...

Finished Front Room

Image
I posted before how I was waiting for fabric to get some curtains done, and now that they are, I'm posting pictures! So here's the first one of the three, absolutely beautiful! I did realize very quickly, however, that those older blinds are much harder to deconstruct than I thought they'd be! I had to recruit my husband and his cousin to cut all the metal slats off, but it was well worth it!  Next, I started on the cushion for my bench. No one would ever sit on it because it was so hard and uncomfortable, but not anymore! I bought a cheap 2 inch memory foam mattress pad from walmart and cut it to fit (I even have enough for the bench in my husband's 'mancave') since they run about 50 dollars, and just enough to fit 1 bench in actual seat padding runs that same amount. Since I needed 2, I figured it was well worth it, and its SO comfy now!  Here's all three of the roman shades all done, and they turned out great, even if the picture didn't. That...

Reusable 'paper' towels

Image
So I found these floating around for sale on etsy.com, but they want 52 dollars for a roll of 12, so I decided 'i can make that!' So I found some adorable fabrics that I loved, some matching terry cloth, some snaps to help them stay together, and got to work. At first, I totally thought it was going to be easy and quick, then I got to the snap part, and I have to say, that part is SOO much more difficult that I thought it was going to be.   After a few (or more than a few...) mistakes with those snaps, I got into a rhythm, and got the second set done very quickly! I made these 1/2 sheets, because i've always hated having soo much sheet for little projects, and figured even more so with these: therefore smaller sheets! Check these out... So cute! I made a second set, with fabric enough for another set as well, and we all love it!

Bathroom

Image
Ah the 3 day weekend of painting/ kitchen redo. While Hubby's uncle worked on the kitchen, the rest of us tackled the rest of the upstairs in paint. This post's project? The bathroom. Aren't those gold butterflies amazing?  Painting a pretty green tea color (and covering the butterflies) Ah look... Living in the chaos... Frogs in the bathroom :) Decorations on the wall. Those sconces were 1.50 each at a thrift store, and the picture frames my Mother-in-law gave me years ago and just never had a space for them. They look amazing in the bathroom, I have to say! Now time for some new lighting... before... Blah Hubby's uncle apparently had some older light fixtures from other people's houses. A bit of spray paint, and they have new life (I also sprayed some other metallic pieces from the bathroom to bring it all together) Finished product soon to come...

Front Room in the making

Image
The Front Room... still in the making. We've mostly finished the painting, and started hanging artwork, but there's still several parts that are not finished, but here's the beginning of the project! The Beginning. Wallpaper through the whole room. Hubby loves it, but me not so much. We ended up leaving the big wall with the wallpaper, and tearing out the rest of it. Compromise is the key to a happy marriage! A new coat of paint on the walls, a few lamps to light the area, and an Ikea shelf for bench, it's the beginning of greatness. Here's one of the two photo collages that I put together in the room. I started by laying it out on the floor, then transferring it to the wall one picture at a time. This one sits up above the couch.  Here's the second of the collages, this one is above the bench. Here is one of two end tables that I found for 10 dollars a piece at a thrift store. They're very outdated right now, but I have some plans......

The Kitchen

Image
Project 1: The Kitchen The pre-move in kitchen is all YELLOWED. The counters, the cabinets, the backsplash: It's all yellowed from age. BUT- The cabinets are good solid condition, the flow is actually fairly good, and its got tons of unique and useful shelving including a pot shelf with roll out shelves, a lazy susan in the corner, and a divided pan nook. The fridge was not included in the sale of the house, so we also have to find a new fridge... Let's get started... Hubby's uncle works in construction and painting. He owns a painting company 4 hours away, and was so wonderful and kind to drive up for a weekend to help us with this first major project.  And then there's a hiccup... The fridge is too tall. We had 2 options: get one that fit in the space, but didn't fit all our food, or buy one that fit our food and space needs, but didn't fit in the space... Our secret weapon? Hubby's uncle works with cabinetry and was able to trim the cabinet to fit!...

Some Crafty Goodness

Image
I've always loved creating things, drawing, writing, etc. Recently I've gotten into more kinds of crafts like house decor, miniature figure painting, sewing, and re-purposing. I've decided to start the blog, because I really wanted somewhere to share all the crafty awesomeness that I've started, and my yearly mixbook isn't the best place to do that... I doubt anyone will ever see this blog, but here it goes! Back in April 2012, Hubby and I bought our first place!   Very blah interior, but very well maintained, just needs a face lift! backyard full of groundcover... Here's the house! It doesn't look like much in pictures, but it really is a unique, lovely home. In the last several months since moving in, we've been working like crazy to give it the love that this little house deserves. The next few posts will be running through all the things I've been doing, my ideas and projects to make this home into a beautiful little home for ...
